WEMIX Suffers $6.25 Million Smart Contract Breach

WEMIX suffered a major security breach on July 26 when an attacker obtained owner-level privileges over the WEMIX$ stablecoin contract, minting 5.23 million tokens and stealing approximately $6.25 million.

The attack targeted privileged contract access rather than ordinary user wallets, making it a structural issue that requires different remediation approaches. The attacker moved quickly to convert and obscure the stolen funds, dispersing them across multiple chains, including Ethereum and BNB Chain.

The incident is particularly difficult to resolve due to cross-chain fund dispersal, which reduces recovery chances while increasing the risk of assets being further distributed beyond easy reach.

This breach marks WEMIX's second major security incident in recent months, following a separate breach in February 2025 that drained approximately $6.1, $6.2 million from the Play Bridge Vault.
