Western Union Stablecard Launches in 37 Markets, Raises Questions on USDPT Circulation
The Western Union Stablecard, a USDPT stablecoin-backed Visa card, launched on August 4, 2026, in 37 markets. This new product combines a digital wallet and a Visa secured credit card, allowing users to hold, transfer, and spend U.S. dollar value globally.
The Stablecard is the result of a partnership between Western Union and Rain, a fintech focused on cross-border stablecoin payments. According to Western Union's official announcement, the company aims to expand its reach to over 60 markets by the end of 2026.
However, concerns have been raised regarding the circulating supply of USDPT stablecoins. On-chain sources disagree on the actual number, with some estimates suggesting there are around 7.4 million tokens in circulation, while others claim it's significantly lower at approximately 5.92 million.
