Western Union Taps Solana for Global Stablecoin Payment Network

Western Union is partnering with Rain to offer a wallet and a Solana-powered USDPT Visa card in 37 territories. The collaboration will enable users to receive international money transfers, store dollar equivalents, and make purchases using their wallets.

The partnership marks a significant step towards the adoption of public blockchains for everyday transactions. Western Union will be the custodian wallet and distribution provider for USDPT, an on-chain Sol stablecoin.

The integration of Solana settlement with the Visa network is seen as a linkage between two ecosystems. However, key issues such as liquidity management of USDPT, market education, and legal differences need to be addressed.
