Western Union Unveils StableCard for Instant Remittance Spending
Western Union has launched StableCard, a new product that lets people receive remittances as stablecoins and spend them instantly with a Visa card. The company aims to expand to over 60 markets by year's end, starting with 37 markets where the service went live on August 4, 2026.
The StableCard pairs a self-custody-style digital wallet with a Visa-backed spend card, allowing recipients to hold and transact in USDPT, a dollar-backed stablecoin built on Solana. This means that users can receive funds directly into their USDPT wallet, without the need for physical cash pickups or bank deposits.
The recipient can then spend those stablecoins anywhere Visa is accepted, as well as through Apple Pay and Google Pay. The card infrastructure comes through a partnership with Rain, which handles compliance and operational logistics across the various markets.
