Whale Activity Surges as Bitcoin Rallies Past $80,000
A recent surge in crypto markets has led to an increase in whale movements, with large holders executing hundreds of millions of dollars in transfers and position closures. On-chain analytics firm Lookonchain reported a series of substantial distributions by unidentified large holders during the rally.
One whale sold 7,700 BTC (~$576 million) over three days, including a single transaction of 2,700 BTC ($212 million). A dormant address moved 1,400 BTC ($112 million) after four years, realizing roughly $76.5 million in profit. Institutional flows saw Jump Crypto send 1,140 BTC ($89 million) to Binance and Metaplanet deposit 1,000 BTC ($80 million) to Coinbase.
Lookonchain identified a dormant address that had remained inactive for about four years before transferring 1,400 BTC, valued near $111.61 million. The wallet had originally received 2,200 BTC at an average price of approximately $45,024 several years earlier. This holder maintained the position through intervening market cycles and began realizing gains during the recent uptrend, with tracked profits on the sold portion estimated around $76.5 million.
