Whale Bitcoin Inflows Plummet Ahead of Fed Rate Decision
Bitcoin inflows to Binance from large investors known as whales have plummeted by 44.3% over the past month, falling to just $3.9 billion. This sharp decline in whale activity is a significant shift in behavior and signals that these investors may be holding onto their Bitcoin or taking a risk-averse stance ahead of the Federal Reserve's upcoming interest rate decision.
Meanwhile, retail investor inflows have been relatively resilient, with a 22% drop over the same period to $7.8 billion. This has created a significant gap between whale and retail flows, with retail investors now sending roughly twice as much Bitcoin to Binance as their larger counterparts.
The FOMC meeting on July 28-29 is poised to have a major impact on Bitcoin's price direction. If the Fed announces a rate hike or signals a more hawkish stance, it could strengthen the dollar and tighten financial conditions for risk assets, potentially increasing short-term volatility in Bitcoin.
