Whale Spends Big: 49,700 BTC Moved Amid Market Volatility
A significant transaction has occurred in the Bitcoin market, sparking concerns about potential market reactions. According to CryptoQuant contributor XBTManager, 49,700 BTC has been spent in the 6-12 month spent output age band, a category that tracks long-held Bitcoin being moved. This indicator suggests changing market behavior and may precede market volatility.
Historically, substantial movements from older Bitcoin accounts can introduce temporary selling pressure, causing short-term price decreases as larger holders or dormant wallets become active again. The analyst notes that a significant portion of these Bitcoins might enter the market soon, possibly heightening selling pressure and inducing panic among retail investors. Consequently, prices may dip temporarily only to bounce back, allowing these assets to be sold to retail investors at elevated prices.
Bitcoin is currently valued at just above $98,000, having recovered from trading under $90,000 earlier in the week. The cryptocurrency has seen a notable decline, dropping approximately 10% from its all-time high above $109,000 recorded in January. Over the past week, Bitcoin's price has fallen by 3.5%, with daily trading volume increasing to over $58 billion.
