Whales Back Off as Retail Buys In, Can BTC Reclaim $80K?

Bitcoin's holder data suggests that the market may be entering a new phase as whale holdings decreased by 0.20% over three weeks, while retail wallets added 0.09%. This implies that larger holders are decreasing their aggression as smaller investors take on more of the available supply.

The trend is consistent with overall market sentiment, where short-term holders have remained profitable over the past month, along with long-term holders who have returned to profit-taking. Both cohorts now hold profitable positions, reducing the risk of widespread selling at a loss.

The improving holder structure is facing a clear test on shorter-term price action as Bitcoin's price has repeatedly failed near $80,000 since breaking sharply higher from $63,000 on August 19th. The current recovery could develop into a sustained uptrend if both cohorts continue to be profitable and Bitcoin stays above $80K.
