Whales on the Sidelines: Bitcoin Awaits Major Inflation Report and Rate Decision
The largest Bitcoin market participants, known as whales, have been hesitant to make a move as the asset struggles below $80,000. According to Santiment Intelligence data, their holdings have remained almost completely unchanged at roughly 5.23 million units over the past week.
This reluctance may be due to upcoming significant events that could impact the market. Analyst Ali Martinez noted that whales are likely waiting for two key developments: the US inflation report and the subsequent Federal Reserve meeting.
The next ten days will see a series of impactful events, including the release of August Producer Price Index (PPI) data today, followed by the Consumer Price Index (CPI) tomorrow. The CPI reading could play a major role in breaking the disagreement on interest rate hikes.
