Whales Recover but Short-Term Holders Sink Amid Bitcoin Rebound
Bitcoin's recent rebound has shown some promise, but it still needs stronger spot accumulation and improving capital flows to turn that move into a sustainable recovery. According to CryptoQuant analysis, small whales have returned to unrealized profit after Bitcoin's price recovered, which can happen without substantial new capital entering the market.
The signal does not show that these whales purchased more Bitcoin; rather, their existing holdings have returned to profit as the price recovered. This has happened before in March and April 2026, and was followed by short-term advances, according to the report.
However, the broader short-term holder data remains weaker. Bitcoin's short-term holder market cap fell to $236.2 billion on July 25, marking only its second move below the level recorded on October 3, 2024. This decline can be attributed to several factors, including a lower Bitcoin price and supply leaving the cohort as previously acquired BTC ages into the long-term holder classification.
