White House Adviser Expects Clarity Act Vote Despite Ongoing Crypto Disputes
The White House's top cryptocurrency adviser, Patrick Witt, expressed optimism about the Clarity Act becoming law. The comprehensive federal regulatory framework for the crypto industry has faced repeated setbacks.
Witt said he is 'truly optimistic and bullish' ahead of the first planned vote on the bill. A cloture vote is scheduled for September 15, when lawmakers return from their month-long August recess.
The Clarity Act would establish a regulatory framework for stablecoins, which allow users to earn interest on deposited funds. However, disagreements over how to treat stablecoin yield have resurfaced, with Sen. Tim Scott saying 'we thought it was all settled, but now they have a rearview mirror that's getting bigger and the windshield is getting smaller.'
The bill has also faced issues related to President Donald Trump's expanding crypto holdings. Democrats are pressing for stronger language in the bill to address these concerns.
