White House Adviser Optimistic About CLARITY Act Despite Ongoing Disputes
The White House's top cryptocurrency adviser, Patrick Witt, expressed optimism about the CLARITY Act's chances of passing its Senate vote on September 15. The bill aims to create a comprehensive federal regulatory framework for the crypto industry and has faced repeated delays due to disagreements over stablecoin rewards and ethics language.
The debate over stablecoin yields, which allow users to earn interest on deposited funds, has reopened despite a compromise reached in May between Senators Angela Alsobrooks and Thom Tillis. According to Senator Tim Scott, the issue is still unresolved and will require further discussion. 'We thought it was all settled, but now they have a rearview mirror that's getting bigger and the windshield is getting smaller,' Scott said.
A separate conflict over ethics language has added to the bill's complications. Democrats have pressed for stronger provisions addressing President Trump's expanding personal crypto holdings, with some calling for state attorneys general to enforce restrictions on public officials' digital assets.
