White House Backs Clarity Act Ahead of Key Senate Vote
The White House is backing the Clarity Act ahead of a Senate vote on September 15. The bill aims to create a comprehensive federal regulatory framework for the crypto industry.
White House crypto adviser Patrick Witt expressed optimism about the passage of the Clarity Act, despite renewed disagreements over key provisions. He stated that officials plan to work with Democrats to resolve areas of disagreement before the scheduled cloture vote.
The Clarity Act's major hurdle remains the dispute over stablecoin rewards, with Senate Banking Committee Chair Tim Scott highlighting the need for further debate. The issue previously grew into a wider conflict between the crypto industry and the banking sector.
Ethics provisions targeting President Donald Trump's crypto holdings are also under pressure. Democrats seek stronger provisions related to Trump's expanding crypto interests. Trump has already agreed to language that would bar public officials, employees, and their spouses from issuing or sponsoring digital assets until January 2029.
