White House Hosts Cryptocurrency Meetup as SEC Cancels 'Reg Crypto' Meeting
The White House has announced it will host an event on Wednesday, September 19, to discuss the cryptocurrency and prediction market industries. Top executives from both sectors will attend alongside traditional finance bigwigs. The meeting is expected to feature remarks from President Donald Trump.
This comes as a surprise, given that just last week, the SEC cancelled its 'Reg Crypto' meeting due to concerns within the White House. The Senate's digital asset market structure legislation (the CLARITY Act) awaits a September 15 cloture vote.
The Treasury Department's Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) has granted conditional approval to World Liberty Financial (WLF), a token-issuing project owned by Trump. WLF will be able to exert greater control over USD1, the dollar-backed stablecoin.
