White House Makes Last-Ditch Effort to Pass Crypto Clarity Act Amid Lingering Disagreements
The White House is making a major push to convince Senators to advance the Crypto Clarity Act before its crucial Senate vote on September 16. The bill requires 60 votes to overcome a filibuster and move forward.
According to Patrick Witt, the White House crypto adviser, the Administration has made significant concessions to address concerns over ethics rules and stablecoin regulation. Witt stated that he feels 'very good' about the legislation's odds, despite lingering disagreements.
The latest version of the bill includes provisions that would allow state attorneys general to pursue ethics violations involving federal officials, but would not give them direct authority to target the president, vice president, members of Congress, or federal judges. Republicans have agreed to roughly 95% of the requests made by Democrats.
