White House Meeting Marks Shift towards Regulatory Clarity for Crypto
Crypto industry leaders gathered at the White House on August 19 to discuss digital assets and the stalled CLARITY Act. The meeting brought together regulators and executives from across the crypto and traditional finance industries.
CFTC Chair Michael Selig used the opportunity to declare an end to 'regulation by enforcement', stating that 'the era of political lawfare, de-banking, and regulation by enforcement is over'. This shift in approach was seen as a positive development for the industry, with many interpreting it as a sign that crypto is becoming more mainstream.
Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse was among those in attendance at the White House meeting. In a post on X, he celebrated the growing influence of the crypto industry in Washington DC, stating that 'crypto isn't a fringe industry. And Washington DC knows the crypto voter is alive and well'. With 67 million Americans now owning crypto, close to one in four people, Garlinghouse's comments suggest that the industry is gaining traction.
The meeting also sparked bullish sentiment among XRP investors. The token rebounded from around $1 after the event, with social sentiment turning strongly positive as a result. One commentator, Grok, even floated a price target of $40 for XRP, citing a potential market capitalization increase of approximately $2.55 trillion.
