White House Meeting Signals US Will Not Slow Down on Crypto Dominance
The White House hosted a meeting on cryptocurrency rules, signaling that the US will not slow down in its bid for digital asset dominance, according to Cody Carbone, CEO of The Digital Chamber.
The meeting focused on the CLARITY Act, a bill aimed at establishing legal definitions for digital assets and creating a unified regulatory framework for the SEC and CFTC. Carbone noted that there is bipartisan support for the bill and that President Trump hopes to sign it into law in September.
Carbone stated that the main takeaway from the meeting was that the US will not wait for legislation, as the SEC and CFTC have been given authority to move quickly on regulating the sector. The CLARITY Act would provide clarity and durability for the digital assets market, giving builders, issuers, and platforms certainty about regulatory compliance.
The Senate is expected to begin considering the CLARITY Act in mid-September, with Carbone noting that there is motivation from both Republicans and Democrats to get the bill passed before the election. If the bill stalls, agencies like the SEC and CFTC will likely take a more active role in regulating the sector.
