White House Pledges Support for CLARITY Act Ahead of Crucial Senate Vote
The White House is fully committed to passing the CLARITY Act in September, according to Patrick Witt, the administration's crypto policy chief. The bill would define federal oversight for major cryptocurrency trading and issuance activities.
Witt stated that durable rules are needed now more than ever, as agency rules alone cannot provide the same statutory durability. The White House push follows earlier congressional action, with the House passing its version of the bill in July 2025 by a 294-134 vote.
The CLARITY Act divides digital-asset oversight between the SEC and CFTC, giving the Commodity Futures Trading Commission authority over digital commodity exchanges, brokers, and dealers. The Securities and Exchange Commission would keep authority over digital-asset securities and covered primary offerings.
