White House Rekindles Strategic Bitcoin Reserve Plans Amidst Cryptocurrency Bear Market
The White House has announced plans to move forward with the Strategic Bitcoin Reserve, a program that aims to accumulate and hold significant amounts of Bitcoin. This development comes after months of inactivity following its initial launch last March.
The proposed legislation, known as ARMA (American Reserve Modernization Act), would provide a 20-year lockup period for any Bitcoin currently held by the reserve and introduce new legal, audit, and compliance mechanisms needed to hold significant amounts of Bitcoin at the sovereign level.
According to Patrick Witt, White House Digital Assets Director, there has been a substantial 'breakthrough' in protecting government-held crypto assets. He is bullish that work on ARMA can proceed as soon as the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act ('Clarity Act') is signed into law.
