White House Revives Efforts for Strategic Bitcoin Reserve
The White House is reviving efforts to establish a Strategic Bitcoin Reserve, which could have significant implications for the price of Bitcoin. The reserve's creation was announced last March, but its progress has been slow since then.
The American Reserve Modernization Act (ARMA), introduced by Reps. Nick Begich and Jared Golden, proposes a 20-year lockup period for any Bitcoin held by the reserve. This would prevent the government from dumping the cryptocurrency on the market in the short term.
According to Patrick Witt, White House Digital Assets Director, there has been a 'breakthrough' in protecting government-held crypto assets. The Clarity Act is still needed before ARMA can proceed.
