White House Warns CLARITY Act Faces Collapse Without 7 Democratic Votes

Share

The White House is putting pressure on Senate Democrats to support the CLARITY Act by September 15, warning that the bill will die if at least seven Democrats do not vote in favor of cloture.

Patrick Witt, executive director of the Presidential Council of Advisors for Digital Assets, said lawmakers have had years to reach a deal on crypto market structure and cannot keep delaying. He added, 'If they can't get there by September 15, they never will.'

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and other Democrats have been accused of blocking the procedural vote on the bill before the August recess while seeking more time for negotiations.

Republican Sen. Bernie Moreno echoed Witt's message, framing the coming vote as a choice over whether the US maintains its lead in digital-asset innovation or cedes ground to countries such as China.
