Wind Farms and Bitcoin Mining: A New Revenue Stream?

A new study from Ireland's Technological University of the Shannon suggests that pairing wind farms with Bitcoin mining operations could significantly boost revenue by utilizing excess electricity.

The researchers found that a 20 MW Bitcoin mining facility alongside a 100 MW wind farm could use up to 83% of curtailed power, increasing combined revenue by approximately 32% compared to wind generation alone.

This approach could be particularly beneficial in regions with high renewable penetration and grid bottlenecks, where energy waste is a significant concern. However, the economic viability of such projects depends on various factors, including electricity prices, mining difficulty, and hardware costs.
