Winklevoss Twins Donate $10 Million in Bitcoin to MAGA Inc Just Days After Settlement Withdrawal
The Winklevoss twins, Cameron and Tyler, donated approximately $10 million in Bitcoin to MAGA Inc, a super PAC supporting President Donald Trump. The donation was made just 23 days after the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) jointly petitioned with Gemini to withdraw a settlement agreement worth $5 million.
The CFTC had initially alleged that Gemini made 'false or misleading statements' regarding its Bitcoin futures business, but the twins and their company ultimately reached a settlement to avoid a jury trial. The withdrawal of this settlement would free Gemini from litigation risk and grant the company greater operational flexibility.
This is not the first time the Winklevoss twins have supported the Trump campaign. During the 2024 presidential election, each brother donated $1 million to the Trump campaign, and they also contributed $21 million in Bitcoin to the Digital Freedom Fund, a super PAC focused on supporting cryptocurrency policy initiatives.
The large-scale donations highlight how major players in the cryptocurrency industry are actively engaging with the regulatory environment as it shifts rapidly under the Trump administration. The proximity of the settlement withdrawal involving a regulatory agency and the massive donations is expected to draw intense scrutiny from Congress and voters regarding the transparency of the policy-making process.
