Wintermute Bets Big with $190M Short Positions Led by ETH, BTC
Wintermute, one of the largest cryptocurrency market makers, has significantly increased its short positions on the Hyperliquid derivatives platform. The firm's total short exposure now stands at $190.77 million, up from $146.19 million.
This represents a notable shift in Wintermute's trading strategy over recent days. According to data from Onchain Lens, the firm's largest short position is in Ethereum (ETH) at $53.02 million, followed by Bitcoin (BTC) at $30.66 million.
The increase of approximately $44.58 million in short positions suggests that Wintermute is positioning for potential price declines or hedging against existing inventory. Market makers often use derivatives to manage risk, but the scale of this move has drawn attention from traders and analysts monitoring on-chain activity.
