Wintermute Enters Regulated US Markets with Broker-Dealer License
Wintermute, one of the largest crypto liquidity providers, has obtained a broker-dealer license from the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). This move marks its entry into regulated markets in the United States, allowing it to provide liquidity for institutional counterparties.
The license restricts Wintermute's activities to proprietary trading and allows it to engage in over-the-counter transactions involving US equities, options, and other security-based instruments. The company will also be able to act as an Authorized Participant (AP) for exchange-traded products, including digital asset ETFs.
Wintermute's CEO, Evgeny Gaevoy, stated that the license is a result of several years of working with American authorities and marks its entry into the US regulated markets. He believes that digital assets and traditional finance will continue to develop in parallel and eventually integrate more deeply.
