Wintermute Enters US Securities Markets with Broker-Dealer Registration

Share

Wintermute, one of the largest crypto liquidity providers, has expanded its operations into US securities markets. The London-based market maker's New York subsidiary, Wintermute USA, has registered as a broker-dealer with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and FINRA. This registration enables Wintermute to provide liquidity to U.S.-based securities exchanges and OTC counterparties.

The firm can now trade stocks and options from its own account, marking its first direct entry into traditional financial market infrastructure. Broker-dealers are firms registered to buy and sell securities on behalf of clients or for their own accounts, subjecting them to additional compliance and reporting requirements.

Wintermute stated that the registration strengthens its coverage of institutional counterparties in the U.S. and positions the firm for developments in tokenized securities markets. The company facilitates over $10 billion in average daily trading volume across more than 60 centralized and decentralized exchanges, according to Wintermute's earlier announcements.
