Wintermute, an algorithmic market maker, made a significant transfer of Ethereum (ETH) tokens to centralized platforms Binance and Coinbase. The firm moved 61,847 ETH, valued at approximately $160.3 million, from its active wallet over a three-hour span on September 11, 2026.

The sudden injection of liquidity into the market triggered marked volatility in Ethereum's price. According to CoinGecko data, Ether's price opened near $2,437 but surged more than 5% after the US Consumer Price Index (CPI) for August 2026 was released below consensus estimates, touching an intraday high of $2,667.

The transfer has sparked concerns about potential sell pressure across deep order books. Market analysts suggest that this spot inventory transfer could increase available sell pressure, though it does not necessarily represent an immediate spot sale. The price action also triggered substantial disruption across the perpetual futures market, with 103,515 traders liquidated across the global market over the last 24 hours, totaling $758.02 million in forced closures.
