Wintermute-Linked Wallets Flood Binance with $399M in BTC Amid Market Volatility
Wintermute-linked wallets have made a significant move in the crypto market by depositing approximately $399 million in Bitcoin to Binance over the past two days. According to blockchain tracking platform Onchain Lens, these wallets sent a cumulative 5,100 BTC to Binance, with transactions ranging from a few hundred to over a thousand Bitcoin.
The transfers have sparked speculation among traders, as large exchange deposits are often seen as a signal of intent to sell. However, market makers like Wintermute frequently move funds between exchanges and their own wallets for liquidity provision, arbitrage strategies, or over-the-counter settlement.
While the exact purpose of the transfers has not been publicly confirmed by Wintermute, the timing coincides with a period of heightened volatility in the crypto market. Bitcoin's price has struggled to break above key resistance levels, and some analysts suggest that large deposits to exchanges could precede a price correction.
