Wintermute Plots $1 Billion Bet on AI-Powered Trading Expansion
Wintermute, a leading cryptocurrency market maker, is planning to invest around $1 billion over five years in artificial intelligence and high-frequency trading infrastructure. The company aims to expand its presence beyond digital assets and generate more than half of its revenue from non-crypto markets by the end of 2027.
The investment will focus on building computing power, storage, networking, and data-center infrastructure that can support complex quantitative strategies requiring large datasets and continuous model retraining. Wintermute has already made inroads into traditional markets, including exchange-traded funds, real-world-asset perpetual futures, and prediction markets.
As part of its expansion plans, Wintermute is building a regulatory and staffing base in the US to establish itself as a major player in regulated securities markets. The company's American affiliate has recently registered as a broker-dealer, allowing it to trade equities and equity options for its own account.
