Wintermute Registers as US Broker-Dealer to Tap Traditional Markets
Wintermute, a leading crypto market maker, has expanded its reach beyond traditional cryptocurrency markets by registering as a broker-dealer in the US. The firm's US affiliate can now trade equities and options, provide liquidity to national exchanges, and self-clear digital asset securities.
The registration with the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) allows Wintermute to operate as a proprietary trading firm in the US. This move enables the company to pursue market-making roles on major stock exchanges like Nasdaq and the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE).
According to CEO Evgeny Gaevoy, this expansion reflects the firm's conviction that digital assets and traditional finance will increasingly intersect. Wintermute has already made strides in tokenized gold and prediction markets, and the regulated US presence is expected to position it for further growth in tokenized securities.
