Wintermute Scores Big in US Regulated Markets With SEC and FINRA Registration
Wintermute, a cryptocurrency market maker, has obtained registration from both the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA), marking its official entry into regulated US markets. This move allows Wintermute's affiliate, Wintermute USA LLC, to trade traditional equities and options, act as an Authorized Participant for exchange-traded products including digital asset ETPs, and self-clear digital asset securities, all solely for its own account.
The registration does not permit Wintermute to handle customer funds or serve retail clients. It covers proprietary activity only, from equity and options trading to acting as an Authorized Participant on ETPs tied to digital assets. This development positions Wintermute for the tokenized securities market broadly.
Wintermute's CEO, Evgeny Gaevoy, framed this registration as a bet that digital assets and traditional finance will continue to converge, stating they 'will evolve in more than one direction.'
