Wintermute Scores US Broker License, Eyes Citadel and Jane Street
Wintermute, a crypto market maker, has secured a broker-dealer license in the US, marking its entry into regulated American markets. The registration will allow Wintermute's US arm to register as a market maker on stock exchanges and carry out trades in commodities, digital asset ETFs, and tokenized stocks.
Wintermute CEO Evgeny Gaevoy has set a three- to five-year target to compete with top firms like Citadel Securities and Jane Street. To achieve this goal, Wintermute will first focus on commodities and digital asset ETFs, then move on to tokenized equities if regulators approve them.
The firm already serves institutional clients, which drove 72% of its spot over-the-counter (OTC) volume in the first half of 2026. This existing customer base gives Wintermute a strong foundation for expansion into US markets.
