Wintermute Secures Broker License, Expanding into Traditional Markets
Crypto market maker Wintermute has secured a broker license in the US, allowing it to trade U.S. stocks and equity options.
The New York-based unit of Wintermute USA LLC has registered with the SEC and joined FINRA, giving it access to traditional financial infrastructure.
The firm plans to initially focus on crypto-linked markets, including tokenized stocks, pending regulatory approval.
Wintermute processed $3.5 trillion in trading volume last year and handles around $10 billion daily across more than 60 venues.
The company aims to compete with established market makers within three to five years.
