Withdrawal Holds and Minimum Amounts: Crypto Exchanges' Hidden Hurdles
Crypto exchanges often have rules that can get in the way of withdrawals, even when deadlines are looming. Two of these rules are withdrawal holds and minimum withdrawal amounts.
A withdrawal hold is a time-limited block on a balance after money has been deposited or coins bought through certain payment routes. This serves fraud prevention purposes, preventing coins from being withdrawn before the payment route can be reversed.
Minimum withdrawal amounts are set to prevent exchanges from paying out of pocket for transactions that cost less than the network fee. If an account balance is below this threshold, the exchange will technically refuse the transfer.
The combination of these two rules with a fixed deadline can become problematic, pushing back the earliest point at which users can act. This is especially concerning when considering deadlines such as August 23 and September end in 2026.
