Witt Blames Democrats as CLARITY Act Faces September Showdown
White House crypto adviser Patrick Witt accused Senate Democrats of delaying the CLARITY Act before its August recess. The bill, which aims to create federal rules for digital assets and divide oversight between two agencies, has been a long-time goal for Congress.
The Senate adjourned without voting on the measure after an overnight session that ended Friday morning. Lawmakers will return on September 14, giving supporters of the bill a narrow window to gather bipartisan backing and resolve disputed sections during the three-week September work period.
Witt said Democrats requested another extension for negotiations over issues such as government ethics, financial crime controls, and stablecoin rewards. He warned that without progress by September 15, the measure's prospects would fall sharply.
