Witt Blasts Senate Democrats Over CLARITY Act Delay
White House crypto adviser Patrick Witt has criticized Senate Democrats for delaying the passage of the CLARITY Act, a bill aimed at clarifying jurisdictional boundaries between the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC). The bill has been under negotiation since last summer, but its chances of passing in 2026 have decreased significantly due to the delay.
The CLARITY Act seeks to provide a regulatory framework for digital commodities, which would help reduce uncertainty for companies operating in the US. However, Democrats have been slow to advance the bill, with some lawmakers opposing certain provisions related to financial crime and stablecoin rewards.
With the September deadline approaching, Witt has warned that if the Senate cannot vote on the bill, its chances of passing are slim. He noted that a failure to advance the bill could leave crypto firms waiting longer for a comprehensive market-structure framework, particularly as lawmakers focus on the November midterm elections.
