Wood's Thesis: Open-Weight Models Boost Big Three AI Firms
Cathie Wood's ARK Invest has significant stakes in three AI firms that she believes will dominate the market. According to Wood, open-weight AI models are pushing revenue toward OpenAI, Anthropic, and SpaceXAI. This is despite her claim that these models make enterprises more vulnerable to attacks.
The argument stems from a tweet by ARK Chief Futurist Brett Winton, who said that companies using open-weight models will have to continually spend on frontier labs for protection. This is due to the narrowing gap between open and closed models in terms of cyber capability.
Palantir CEO Alex Karp makes an opposing argument, stating that companies are paying a 'wealth tax' by renting models from OpenAI and Anthropic. Meanwhile, Anthropic has taken a nuanced stance, warning about the risks associated with open-weight models but not advocating for an outright ban.
