World Chain Rolls Out EIP-7928 Upgrade to Boost Layer-2 Scalability
Blockchain infrastructure developers face a tradeoff between network speed and decentralization. To address this issue, World Chain is rolling out an upgrade to its layer-2 blockchain using Ethereum Improvement Proposal (EIP) 7928. This update introduces block access lists that increase transaction throughput without requiring expensive hardware for validators.
The implementation relies on EIP-7928, which allows validators to begin checking transactions while blocks are still under construction. By streaming the access list data every 200 milliseconds using its Flashblock architecture, World Chain is taking this proposed Ethereum standard a step further. This approach enables parallel verification and significantly increases processing capacity without requiring a proportional spike in raw computing power.
World Chain's rollout is notable because it deploys EIP-7928 now through a simple runtime configuration flag, whereas Ethereum developers have only discussed adding it as part of the Glamsterdam upgrade. The company claims that internal testing showed promising results, with validation latency remaining largely unchanged even when throughput spiked to up to one gigagas per second using standard cloud infrastructure.
