World Foundation Raises Over $52M in Token Sale Amid Growing Scrutiny

World Network, a digital identity system that allows users to prove they are unique humans online, has attracted increased attention due to concerns about distinguishing real users from AI-generated accounts and activity. The project uses World ID as its identity protocol and enables users to verify their humanity through several methods, including the use of Orb devices.

The organization plans to expand World ID across enterprise platforms, consumer applications, and AI-related use cases, with potential use cases including verified participants in Zoom meetings and concert ticketing systems designed to limit bot activity. The funding round also follows Grayscale's filing for a proposed Worldcoin ETF, while World Network continues facing scrutiny over its biometric data practices.

The WLD token sale has raised concerns about user privacy, with the World Foundation maintaining that its system is designed to protect user privacy and that iris scans are used to generate credentials rather than retain identifiable images. The foundation plans to expand Orb deployments while developing additional verification options, including passport-based credentials.
