Worldcoin Price Tumbles After $52.5M Funding Deal
The Worldcoin price plummeted nearly 10% after the World Foundation secured $52.5 million in institutional funding, sparking concerns about near-term token supply and shifting investor attention away from long-term expansion.
The Pantera Capital-led investment is aimed at accelerating the rollout of the project's AI-powered World ID ecosystem, but traders reacted negatively to the accompanying WLD token sale.
On-chain data revealed that the World Foundation transferred approximately 217.4 million WLD tokens in exchange for nearly 47.5 million USDC, indicating a large institutional token sale rather than open-market selling.
The funding round also added another layer of institutional support to the project, with participating investors subject to lock-up provisions to prevent immediate selling pressure.
