Worldcoin Tumbles 6% Amid Broader Crypto Risk-Off
Worldcoin (WLD) fell about 6% over the last day as the broader crypto market experienced a risk-off environment. The total crypto market cap declined by around 2%, and altcoins, excluding Bitcoin and Ethereum, dropped by approximately 1.5%. This move is not extreme for WLD, which behaves like a higher-beta asset in a weak market.
The decline in Worldcoin can be attributed to the recent rally, where it increased by about 9% from local lows after a prior 250% move and subsequent correction. Profit taking and rotation are enough to explain a 5-6% giveback, especially given that WLD was being traded aggressively on short-term technical setups.
A new article highlighting Grayscale's proposed Worldcoin ETF and the concentration of circulating supply among a small number of wallets may have reinforced existing concerns, but it is not a direct shock. There is no evidence of a hack, delisting, protocol failure, or regulatory hit specific to Worldcoin that would uniquely justify the move.
