Wyckoff Distribution Patterns Appear on Major BTC Tops
Richard Wyckoff's market cycle theory, developed in the early 1900s, remains a widely referenced tool in crypto trading circles. The method divides price action into four phases: accumulation, markup, distribution, and markdown. During the distribution phase, large operators sell their positions to eager buyers near the top of a trend, creating behavioral patterns that can be identified by traders.
The Wyckoff method relies on volume analysis, comparing effort (volume) against result (price movement) to detect when large operators are offloading positions. Traders watch for specific events within the distribution phase, including the buying climax, automatic reaction, secondary test, and last point of supply.
BTC has displayed patterns consistent with Wyckoff distribution at several major tops, most notably in the first half of 2021 before a 50% drawdown. The method does not predict timing or targets, but rather serves as a reading system to interpret what large, informed participants are doing with their capital.
