Wyoming Ditches LayerZero for Chainlink Amid Security Concerns
Wyoming's Stable Token Commission has made a significant move by replacing its Frontier Stable Token (FRNT) from LayerZero to Chainlink's Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol (CCIP). This decision follows an extensive security review and marks the first time a U.S. government entity has publicly replaced its blockchain infrastructure due to security concerns.
The migration is part of a larger exodus from LayerZero, with around $15 billion in assets having moved to Chainlink so far. The commission will fully deprecate its LayerZero token implementation and use CCIP as FRNT's exclusive cross-chain infrastructure under a multi-year contract.
FRNT is the only fully reserved, fiat-backed stablecoin issued by a U.S. public entity, with reserve income supporting Wyoming's School Foundation Program. The commission's decision to migrate comes four months after an attack on Kelp DAO's LayerZero-powered bridge resulted in significant losses.
