x402 AI Payment Protocol on Track to Become Industry Norm

Coinbase's CEO Brian Armstrong believes that AI payment protocol x402 will become the norm in the future. According to him, every AI agent will need to make payments to buy or use something.

Armstrong thinks that AI agents will eventually far outnumber humans, and as a result, they will all need to be able to make payments. He made this statement on X (formerly Twitter) on August 18.

x402 is an open payment protocol built on HTTP 402, which allows AI agents to automatically pay for APIs and digital services. It primarily supports stablecoin-based on-chain payments, enabling users to pay instantly for needed services without separate accounts or subscriptions.
