x402 Protocol Processes 14M Payments via AI Agents in Record Time
The AI-powered x402 protocol has processed over 14 million payments in just 30 days. According to data from Token Terminal, reported by Bitcoin.com, this milestone highlights the growing role of autonomous systems in handling financial transactions without human intervention.
The majority of these transactions were settled using USDC, a stablecoin pegged to the U.S. dollar, with Base and Polygon leading the transaction volume among supporting networks. 7.3 million payments were made through Base, followed closely by 5.6 million through Polygon.
x402 is an open payment protocol built around HTTP 402, allowing AI agents to automatically pay for APIs and digital services in real-time. By leveraging stablecoins for on-chain payments, the protocol enables seamless, automated transactions, paving the way for a new era of machine-to-machine commerce.
