XBT Ticker Grab Sparks Controversy in Bitcoin Blake2b Project
The Bitcoin Blake2b project, which forked away from Bitcoin on August 8, 2026, at block height 961632, is again causing controversy in the crypto space. The project's developers switched its proof-of-work to BLAKE2b and reduced the block size after the split. They then listed it on some trading platforms, including Neoxa Exchange, which changed the ticker from BTCB2 to XBT at their request.
The choice of ticker sparked a backlash, with some critics accusing the project's team of trying to legitimize what they see as a scam by using the XBT ticker. This is because XBT is the ISO-compliant currency code for Bitcoin and is used in historical data everywhere.
Neoxa Exchange defended their decision, stating that they had done due diligence and that it was up to the project's team to choose its own ticker. However, some critics argue that using the XBT ticker is misleading and that the project is not decentralized as claimed by its supporters.
