XDC Network Integrates x402 Payment Standard for AI Agent Transactions
XDC Network has integrated the x402 payment standard into its XDC AI marketplace, allowing AI agents to pay for digital services without human approval. This move was showcased at a New York event on July 29, 2026, in front of over 100 representatives from banks, technology companies, venture capital firms, and family offices.
The x402 standard is an open payment protocol introduced by Coinbase in 2025, reviving the HTTP 402 status code. It enables a server to charge a client for an API call or data, with settlement in stablecoins within the same request.
XDC AI gives each AI agent a non-custodial smart wallet and compliance controls to limit risk if compromised or misused. Components of the system include gasless USDC settlement, spending caps, temporary access keys, and deterministic finality.
