XRP Could Surpass Bitcoin in Market Cap, Says Ripple Exec
Ripple's Chief Technology Officer Emeritus David Schwartz has sparked debate about the possibility of XRP surpassing Bitcoin in market capitalization. According to Schwartz, it is feasible for XRP to overtake BTC if the XRP Ledger continues to gain ground.
Schwartz emphasized that this scenario would not be a result of Bitcoin shrinking but rather XRP growing faster than Bitcoin in a world where digital assets broadly succeed.
The factors that could contribute to XRP's growth, according to Schwartz, include the XRP Ledger's higher speed, greater functionality, and ability to support features that Bitcoin cannot. He noted that this would be possible in a world where all markets grow much larger.
The recent trend of investors adding XRP exposure while pulling capital from Bitcoin funds during the broader market sell-off lends some weight to Schwartz's long-term thesis. This is evident in the inflows into XRP spot ETFs, which recorded $13.84 million in two consecutive days, compared to Bitcoin spot ETFs posting outflows totaling $166.89 million over the same period.
