XRP Defies Sell-Off as Ripple Token Unlock Brings Fresh Supply
Ripple's billion-dollar token unlock has raised concerns about fresh supply entering the market. The company unlocked one billion XRP, valued at more than $1.06 billion, through three separate transactions.
The first transaction released 500 million XRP worth $532.86 million, while the second and third releases included 300 million XRP ($319.65 million) and 200 million XRP ($213.11 million), respectively.
However, Ripple historically redistributes tokens through escrow management, which has mitigated selling pressure in previous unlocks. Market participants are instead monitoring whether exchanges will receive a meaningful share of the unlocked tokens.
One concern is that exchange inflows have added to the bearish narrative. Spot exchange flows shifted direction after months of outflows, introducing another variable into XRP's outlook. At press time, netflows reached +$2.41 million, marking one of the few positive readings in an extended period dominated by negative values.
XRP has defended its key support at $1.05 despite weakening technical indicators, including a declining MACD line and a negative histogram. The Network Value to Transaction (NVT) ratio declined to 87.8584, representing a sharp 62.08% daily drop. Lower NVT values generally reflect stronger transaction activity relative to market capitalization.
