XRP Derivatives Positions Surge to Two-Month High Near $1 Level
XRP derivatives activity on Binance is surging to a two-month high near the $1 level, according to data from CryptoQuant. The open interest in XRP derivatives has climbed to approximately $461.3 million, representing a sharp rebound from its low of around $360 million at the beginning of August.
This marks an increase of roughly $101 million in additional outstanding positions, or about 28% growth, even as XRP's spot price struggles to gain meaningful momentum. The data suggests that new money is entering the market, but it does not reveal whether traders are predominantly betting on higher or lower prices.
CryptoQuant analyst Arab Chain noted that a rising open interest typically signals new positioning, but both bullish and bearish scenarios remain possible. If XRP appreciates while open interest continues to expand, it could indicate new support for upward momentum. Conversely, persistent price weakness alongside elevated leverage could increase the risk of liquidations and sharper volatility.
The divergence between rising open interest and falling perpetual cumulative volume delta suggests position building is occurring even as net perpetual flows lean toward selling. Analysts point to funding rates, trading volume, and long-short positioning as increasingly important signals for determining how the buildup resolves.
